Pricing is the first thing people search for and the last thing OpenAI has fully published. Here is the complete confirmed position as of 2026-09-30 (per OpenAI's launch post and help center), with nothing filled in.
The confirmed pricing position
- Your first dot is included with ChatGPT Pro or Business Premium — "no additional cost", in OpenAI's wording.
- It is always on: you can talk to it, think out loud with it, and have it keep following your projects.
- Your plan includes credits for deeper work, and OpenAI says higher credits apply during the first month after launch.
- For that first month, dots usage does not count toward eligible Pro, Business, and Enterprise plan allowances. After the period ends, OpenAI says it will share usage terms for each plan.
- Conversations with your dot do not use up your ChatGPT usage limits. But when you have the dot start or manage work in Codex or ChatGPT work, those tasks count against your plan allowances as normal.
That last bullet is the one people actually need. "Free with Pro" is true for talking to your dot; it is not a claim that every hour of agent work is unmetered forever.

What the numbers are not
There is no published credit figure, no published price for a second dot, and no published price for the speed or volume add-ons OpenAI describes as future options. Anyone quoting a specific number today is either guessing or confusing dots with something else.

- Price of additional dots.
- Price of increasing a dot's speed or its monthly work volume.
- Whether any usage caps apply to background or proactive work.

Confusingly, there is published pricing in this area — for the model that powers dots, not for dots.
OpenAI lists GPT-6 Astra API pricing from $10 per million input tokens and $50 per million output tokens, and says eligible API customers can use zero data retention on supported endpoints. That is a developer price for calling the model directly. It is not what you pay for a dot, and the two should never be mixed in a cost comparison.
If you see "dots pricing" quoted as per-million-token rates, that is the error being made.
What you can check yourself
Three things are verifiable from your own account, and worth recording before you commit to a workflow:
- Whether the feature is live for you. OpenAI notes it is gradually rolling out features announced at DevDay and that availability may lag.
- What your plan page says about credits. Any allowance communicated to you individually is more current than anything published.
- What your workspace admin enabled. For Enterprise, beta access is off by default — if dots are missing, this is the first place to look, not your subscription tier.
A practical way to think about the cost
Until OpenAI publishes credit terms, the sensible framing is: dots are included capacity during the first month, and unquantified afterwards. That means the decision to build a workflow around a dot should be based on whether the work is valuable, not on a cost per task you cannot yet calculate — and it means you should keep the hand-off path (a human doing the task) alive a little longer than you otherwise would.
